MEET BCS

Brief History

The Bronx Concert Singers was founded in 1981 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church after an unforgettable, deeply moving, choral concert experience shared among several local church choirs. We are a nonsectarian, volunteer, mixed-voice chorus dedicated to sharing the choral arts with our community. In 1997 we became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit performing arts organization and have been funded in part by The Bronx Council on the Arts. The Bronx Concert Singers is the chorus-in-residence at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkchester, Bronx, NY.

Mission

The love of singing is what brought the members of
The Bronx Concert Singers together, but we have an even greater purpose. We desire to bring the downtown concert hall experience to communities within the Bronx and Greater New York where classical music programs might not be readily available. We seek to share with audiences our joy of performing great choral music, which includes European choral masterworks, music from contemporary composers and works from our world's various cultures. Our concerts are presented with professional orchestra or chamber ensemble, and have been a source of cultural enrichment since 1981. Our greatest desire is that our performances inspire people to make both choral and classical music a regular part of their cultural activities.

Our diverse membership has included professional singers who graced the stages of some of our world's great opera houses, and people from all walks of life who enjoy choral singing. We welcome individuals with pleasant singing voices who are interested in learning great choral music, and desire to share their artistic talents with their community.
